About Steve

My Journey
In my early 20's I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I thought my life was over. I would never live a "normal" life and just had a future of pain, medication and hospital visits ahead of me. This affected me physically and mentally for many years but kickstarted my search for an explanation of the mind / body connection.

I also spent these 25 years working in various process, analysis & consulting roles in IT, in both the private and public sector. Problem solving and bug fixing; helping people understand how systems work in order to get the best out of them; and guiding people to work out what their needs are and how to meet them with their system, or indeed what changes to make to the system.

Helping other people has always been the part of my work, my volunteering and everyday life that has given me the most joy.

So discovering the Human Givens organising idea I realised that by learning new skills and a fundamental, robust, psychobabble-free approach I could help more people in a better way.

How I work
My aim with all clients is to understand the specific challenges you're experiencing – with work, studies, relationships, parenting, motivation, mindset, self-esteem, overwhelm, stress, or whatever you are dealing with – and equip you, outside of the therapy room, to get your emotional needs met as healthily as possible.

Clients often feel empowered and motivated from as early as the first session and equipped to take the actions – minuscule or massive – that you know will make a meaningful difference.

As a Human Givens therapist I am highly motivated and committed to:
-
briefness – I want you to come in, be resourced and confidently move forward with life in as few sessions as that takes
-
simplicity – in the language I speak, the methods I use and the strategies I share
-
respect and non-judgement – I believe that in all circumstances there are good, uplifting and hopeful conversations to be had about your future and how you want to live it.

Expertise
As well as my career in IT, I've studied, volunteered and worked part-time in mental health since 2021. As a Volunteer Listener at Nottinghamshire Mind, running several community groups (gardening, a talking cafe and board gaming), and also as a Therapist / Mind-Coach in my private practice.

I hold a PostGraduate Diploma in Human Givens Psychotherapy from the Human Givens College.

Human Givens therapy is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate, am registered with the ICO and as a Member of the Human Givens Institute.
